Can I correct my tax return after I already filed it?

Aaron asked:
I filed my federal tax return online some time last week (form 1040A). However, I declared my scholarships as income, but someone told me that I should not have done that because the scholarships were tax free. Is there some way to correct my tax return so my scholarships are not included as income?

You need to amend your return by filing Form 1040X.
You can file an amended return (1040X) but I would wait until they process the original return first. Otherwise, you may ***** things up more.
File an amended return use the form 1040X .
If you need any further help let me know.
File a 1040X amended return, but wait until the original return has been processed.
Scholarships used for tuition and fees are tax free. If some of the money was used for other expenses, that part is taxable.
