How to claim 2007 property taxes on 2008 tax return?

Louis T asked:
I forgot to add property taxes I paid in 2007 on my 2007 tax return. Can I add them to my 2008 tax return? Is there a separate form I need to fill out to claim these paid taxes? I am using H&R Block online to do my taxes. Thanks for your help.

No. You must claim them in the year that you actually paid them. If you paid them in 2007, you file an amended 2007 return (Form 1040X).
You need to amend your 2007 return. DO NOT put 2007 taxes on your 2008 return. You will be begging for an audit!!
NO
You need to amend your 2007 tax filing. By filling out a 1040x and mailing it to the IRS. But if you can use Itemized deductions over the standard deduction.
